At On This Terrestrial Ball we view the world through two sayings in particular: “Those who do not learn from the lessons of History are doomed to repeat them” and “All matters should be handled at the most local level possible”. These sayings embody the ideas of learning from the experience of History and abiding by the Principle of Subsidiarity, which holds that “a community of a higher order should not interfere in the internal life of a community of a lower order, depriving the latter of its functions.”

This belief is an excellent balance between the impractical and dangerous scenarios of lawless anarchism and tyrannical totalitarianism and thus satisfies the need for order while not compromising the freedom of the individual. In speaking on any topic here, we always pull on historical precedent, grounding our beliefs in the Principle of Subsidiarity as the basis for how we speak about it. If you want the historical perspective mixed with a belief in decentralization, then this is definitely the group for you!
